A rare example of a Rolex Sea-Dweller 1665 Mark II Rail Dial.
Rail Dial means that the E of SUPERLATIVE and the Y of OFFICIALLY are aligned vertically. The same also for the two C of CHRONOMETER and CERTIFIED.
The L of ROLEX is also aligned with the center of the crown.
The 1665 was launched in 1967 until 2008.
It was designed from the 5513 Submariner launched in 1953, adding a helium escape valve. Thus equipped, the Sea-Dweller now resists a depth of 610 meters instead of 200 meters for the 5513.
The Mark II was produced from 1968 and the serial numbers are between 16XXXXX and 35XXXXX. The case is thinner and protective shoulders more sharp than the following series of the 1665.
The indication at the bottom of the indicates that the dial is original.
At that time, ROLEX used Tritium on indexes and hands that emitted less than 25 mCi. The Curie (Ci) is the old unit of radioactivity. It was named in honor of Pierre CURIE.
The Sea-Dweller remains one of the most sought-after models of collectors.
After the 1665, the 5514 will be released, reserved for the professionals of the COMEX.
