It was in 1972 that Gérald Genta realized the first Royal Oak presented by the brand at the fair of Basel.
Where does the name Royal Oak come from?
In the 17th century, Charles II, king of England, would have found refuge in a royal oak (after his defeat against Cromwell during the Battle of Worcester in 1651.
From that date until the First World War of 1914, the Royal Navy baptized eight of its ships HMS Royal Oak. Gerald Genta was inspired by his oak hull reinforced by steel plates to draw the bracelet and portholes of octagonal shape for the bezel.
